Do you think Lansdowne Park is moving too slow?

There's a lot of debate going on about the future of Lansdowne Park. A couple days ago, I heard a conversation on the radio about the future plans for Lansdowne and the new proposed designs. The hosts were arguing as to whether or not anything would eventually happen. Apparently, debates about Lansdowne have been going on since the 80s!

Let me illustrate :

Here's a picture of Shanghai in 1990.

Here's a picture of the same place in 2010, 20 years later. A lot has changed and evolved in 20 years right? Things are obviously happening there.

Okay, now let's do the same for Lansdowne. Here a picture of the exhibition grounds in 1962...

And here's a picture of the exhibitions grounds in 2007, 45 years after! Notice any major changes?

Okay, what if we go a little further back? Let's compare Lansdowne of 1954 to Landsdowne of 2007. Surely there has got to be a bit of evolution in 53 years, right? Nope. Actually, it looks like there were more back then.

  1. not really fair to compare a world city in the fastest growing economy in the world to a relatively small one like Ottawa tho

  2. They need to get on with the changes asap, Ottawa needs some updating!

  3. Change always comes with a price. This is the price Shanghai is paying: http://j.mp/bTYV1A

Do you think the new Shanghai is worth it?

  4. I does seem like projects in general take a long time to get done in Ottawa including Lansdowne Park (and even the LRT). Perhaps because you need to deal with three levels of Government. I'm originally from T.O. and it seemed things got done a lot faster.

  5. Remember, Shanghai and other large cities in China (except HK) are basically nicer, modern, and more pimped-out versions of Pyongyang. The Chinese government will do whatever it wants whenever it wants as per Wanderoo's link.

Cities like new Shanghai, Doha, Dubai, etc...that sprouted from literally nothing over the past 20 years have been built by some of the most secretly repressive regimes on the planet.

Quite frankly, I'll take this Landsdowne fuss over anything like that overseas...

  6. Ok Soft Duck, and how many of those countries have you ever been too? Since you are such an expert.

It is laughable to call anywhere a "pimped-out" version of Pyongyang.
